Floatl is a hybrid stop-motion animation made in Mexico City and Berlin. It combines analog materials with multilayered compositing of video and drawings. It is an audio-visual experience where we witness a realm of wonder, contemplation, moving textures and dissolving colors. In this imaginary aquatic world two characters meet and it ignites a poetic dialog between the two elements. Fire and water. Let it Floatl.
Jan Luis Gottwald was born in Poland. He studied animation for two years and is now studying Fine Arts at UdK Berlin. As his medium of expression he uses various techniques which he combines in hybrid stop motion animations. It is an alchemical amalgamation of painting animation, puppet animation, sculpture, real live video, green screen footage and object animation.
